Recently I was looking for a specific light fitting for a room with a low ceiling, but I got side tracked and totally worked up with the nonsense advise I found on the internet. Bad opinions and misconceptions about what you should do with your low ceiling are abundant and sometimes shocking to say the least.
Not all low ceilings are equal, and not all rules apply to all rooms with low ceilings – the size and shape of the room, the windows, natural light, architecture, purpose and personal style all plays a role.
However, there are a few basic things you can do to create the illusion of height that will work almost everywhere.
Before you rush out and spend money and effort to rectify your low ceiling, beware – there is a lot of crap on the internet. Hiring a professional to look at your specific scenario is definitely worth it.
