1. MAKE A LIST
Make a list of everything that you can think of that bothers you in your home, no matter how small or big. What areas don’t work or feel right, what is frustrating, and what do you not like. Remember, your values, needs and priorities change according to the phase of life you’re in.
When you think about making changes, where do you get stuck in finding solutions?
2. SHOW US WHAT YOU LIKE
Most people don’t really know what their style is, and that’s OK – together we will discover your unique “Look”. Think about some of your favorite places you’ve seen or been in. Look around to get a general idea of what is currently happening in home design. What do you like?
If you haven’t started some sort of inspiration folder yet, do so now. It helps you to discover your own style, and us to understand better what you like and what’s important to you. This could be pictures from the Internet or magazines, actual places you’ve seen, or a special object, fabric or artwork that you love.
3. HELP US UNDERSTAND HOW YOU LIVE
We want to design your space around your lifestyle, so it’s important for us to understand how you live, and use your space. Think about the different ways that you use your home – your morning, evening, and weekend routines, how you relax and unwind, where you eat, what you do together as a family, what you like to do on your own, how you entertain.
What is important to you in this stage of your life, and what do you need to accommodate your lifestyle in terms of size, storage space, layout, lighting, and ambiance?
4. HOW FAR DO WE GO?
You want us to come up with some awesome ideas, and we want to do it within your framework. Think about how much you want to spend, and what your priorities are in terms of budget, time and space.
Give as much information you can think of, and be open and honest – it speeds up the process and saves time and money down the line.
Also, please don’t feel you need to do a complete cleanup before we visit your home – we want to understand how you live every day, and where the pitfalls are. This way we can find the best solutions.
